Elite
Frozen Foals (EFF) is owned by Peter and Jane Bartram. EFF was
established to provide a niche service to those warmblood breeders in
Australia wishing to use imported frozen semen to produce the best
sport-horses available.
Peter
and Jane own the Rose City Veterinary Hospital in Benalla, Victoria.
They were first involved with breeding warmblood horses in 1975 after
Peter’s parents visited the state stud in Schleswig-Holstein and were
encouraged to begin crossing their Thoroughbred mares to warmblood
stallions. Jane’s family has been breeding horses since the early
1970’s.
Peter is
a veterinarian with 25 years experience. He has trained in America and
the United Kingdom. He has a special interest in advanced reproductive
technologies. Together with Jane, they have pioneered the use of
endoscopic (hysteroscopic) insemination (EI) with frozen semen in
Australia.
Elite
Frozen Foals is based on their farm, “Hollands Bend”, on the fertile
Hollands Creek flats 6 km south-east of Benalla. Here they have the
facilities to agist client’s horses and undertake advanced reproductive
techniques to create pregnancies. They encourage their clients to use
the best stallions available internationally.
Their
ultimate aim is to give Australian warmblood breeders a chance to
improve their broodmare quality to European standards. This may take 15
to 20 years but they are happy to use a fusion of our abilities and the
best of reproductive technologies available to achieve this outcome.
They
have also begun a program importing mares and fillies into Australia
from Germany. These will be used in their own breeding and
embryo-transfer program to speed the genetic progress of their breeding
band. |
